Securing Subsurface Infrastructure: Access Control Upgrades at Venetia Mine

Project Scope
Decline & Portal (UG)
Project Value
R400,000
Timeline
Nov ’25 – Mar ’26

In heavy industrial and mining environments, physical security is directly tied to operational safety. Underground mining operations require absolute precision when tracking personnel, managing entry points, and securing vital infrastructure.

Between November 2025 and March 2026, EHA Group successfully executed a specialized access control enhancement project at Venetia Mine, specifically targeting the Decline and Portal systems for the Underground (UG) project.

The Challenge of Underground Access Points

The Decline and Portal serve as the primary veins of an underground mining operation. Managing entry in these zones is inherently challenging due to environmental factors like dust, moisture, and heavy machinery movement. Standard security systems simply won’t cut it.

Our mandate was to enhance the existing infrastructure, ensuring that physical barriers and electronic access logging operate seamlessly under rugged conditions.

Key Focus Areas of the Enhancement:

  • Subsurface Durability: Installing and upgrading hardware capable of withstanding high-impact industrial environments.
  • Streamlined Personnel Tracking: Ensuring that access control points accurately verify credentials without slowing down shifts or operational momentum.
  • System Integration: Aligning new physical control points with the overarching security architecture of the mine.

Meeting High-Stakes Industrial Standards

Successfully delivering industrial infrastructure projects within strict timelines requires a deep understanding of mining safety codes and technical compliance. This project highlights EHA Group’s capacity to deliver specialized, high-security industrial access control systems in South Africa, safeguarding both human lives and corporate assets.
